The “Little Ship”
1974 DeFever Passagemaker 34 - $80,000
In the world of trawlers, there is a metric that matters more than horsepower or top speed. It is Displacement.
Most modern 34-foot cruisers weigh about 12,000 lbs. They are essentially large fiberglass corks. When a wave hits them, they bounce. This boat weighs 24,000 lbs. It doesn’t bounce. It pushes the ocean out of the way.
We found a vessel that is effectively a “Little Ship.” It was designed by the legendary Art DeFever to cross oceans, not just lakes. And while most boats of this vintage are “projects” that smell like diesel and despair, this one is different. This one has been loved.
The best part? It’s already parked in paradise. You don’t have to brave the Gulf Stream crossing. You fly down, turn the key, and you are already on vacation.
