The Cajun in Maine
1971 Custom Biloxi Lugger - $75,000
If you walk the docks in Rockland, Maine, you expect to see lobster boats, Hinckleys, and maybe a stray sailboat or two. What you don’t expect to see is a piece of Gulf Coast history sitting in the cold Atlantic waters.
This is a Biloxi Lugger—a hull shape born in the bayous of Mississippi to drag shrimp nets over shallow shoals. They are famous for their low freeboard aft (to haul nets), high pilothouse (to spot birds), and a sheer line that sweeps up like a scimitar.
Finding one in Maine is like finding a gumbo recipe in a clam chowder cookbook. It’s a “fish out of water” story that works beautifully. While the locals are obsessed with deep-V downeast hulls, this southern transplant offers something they don’t: massive stability and a shallow draft perfect for gunkholing.
