The British Picnic Boat
2010 Custom 49 Gentleman's Motor Yacht — $350,000
You idle through the marina, and the owners of massive, plastic-wedding-cake motor yachts actually put their drinks down to stare at your boat. From the varnished toe rails to the sweeping blue hull and the gorgeous, exposed laminated wheelhouse frames, this vessel commands absolute respect. It looks like it belongs to a 1920s titan of industry.
Currently located in Florida, NOI QUATTRO was designed by TT Boat Design (the famous architects behind the legendary Nelson hulls). While many Downeast boats suffer from “corridor accommodation”—feeling cramped and narrow below deck—this custom build completely opened up the layout. It features a cavernous U-shaped saloon, a fully equipped galley, and a master cabin with an island berth that feels like it belongs on a 60-foot yacht.
For Boat 4, we are looking at one of the most expensive categories of boats on the water: The Downeast Picnic Yacht. Brands like Hinckley, Sabre, and Grand Banks Eastbay dominate this space. If you want a 49-foot, beautifully appointed Downeast yacht from one of those legacy builders, a 2010 model will easily set you back $800,000 to over $1,000,000.
But what if you step outside the brand-name bubble?
This Custom Gentleman’s Motor Yacht was built in the UK to exacting superyacht standards for its original British owner. It features a cold-molded Brazilian cedar hull, exposed laminated beams, and a massive interior volume. Because it is a custom “one-off,” the mass market doesn’t know how to price it. The result? You can capture the look, the feel, and the performance of a million-dollar Hinckley for an asking price of $350,000.
